In its second year, the Antenna Documentary Film Festival wrapped up on the weekend, after showcasing five days of exciting, provocative and thought-provoking films, as well as hosting some special industry panels and talks.
Highlights included Werner Herzog’s latest film Into the Abyss, which examines capital punishment in the USA through the filmmaker’s unique style; Detropia (directed by Rachel Grady, Heidi Ewing) which provides a confronting look at a city which is still suffering immensely from the effects of GFC; and Girl Model (directed by Ashley Sabin, David Redmon) which paints a tough portrait of the modelling world – it follows a naive, 13 year old Serbian model named Nadia, who is selected to travel to Japan with the promise of some much needed paid work.
The SBS Award for Best Feature Documentary went to Planet of Snail from director Seung-Jun Yi, with a special mention to Call Me Kuchu.
